Today we are headed to NYC to the National Stationery Show!  It feel like only yesterday the show was coming around last year, and we were feeling extremely left out since we were not attending.  It is amazing what you can accomplish when you set your mind to something.  Only a year ago we were working in the fashion industry and now we have our own stationery and invitation business.  We feel truly blessed and we’re so excited to see whats new from all of our favorite designers and check out the latest paper trends!

Destination Station

Tomorrow I am heading to Maui (one of my FAVORITE places in the world!) for a wedding…which sparked my thoughts about destination weddings.

This summer, I am attending five (yes, FIVE) destination weddings.  I always find it so much fun to travel out of town (sometimes to places I would never normally think of visiting), and celebrate with loved ones. Aside from the actual wedding itself, it is always nice to take a few days and experience the food, culture, and landscape of a vacation spot…which brings me to my next point.

Expressing the spirit of a destination to your guests in extremely important, and this typically begins with the invitation design. You can convey so much about the mood of an event through a few small pieces of paper. The colors, fonts, icons, images, and general style will help your guests to grasp what they have to look forward to.

Contact Paper Plane today for a consultation on how we can assist you in building the initial vision of your big day!!

Hello Lucky.

Between all of the crazy projects I have been working on, I am still chipping away at decorating our house.  After thinking about it, I realized that I have been having the most fun with the fireplace mantles. There is so much great inspiration out there, and the possibilities are truly endless.

In our living room, I went with a more traditional look and feel. I randomly started collecting vintage door stoppers, which add a fun and interesting look to the room.  I also decided to hang some bow sconces that my mom handed down to me, which I love because there is a touch of “her” in there now.  Since my husband is a pilot, I popped a vintage flight book under some moss balls for an eclectic feel. I also hung a painting my sister gave us as a wedding gift, and I love the contrast of her style against the older painting to its left.

As for my family room, the colors are more neutral with some hints of light pink, green, and blue. I threw up some shells I picked up at the dog beach and used some other items I picked up at antique and vintage stores along the way. I love displaying items that remind me of past experiences and journeys with friends and family. I am sure I will continue to change things around as time progresses, but for now I am loving these two looks!

Sugar Rush

My amazing friend Paige told me about these brownies yesterday and I can’t seem to get them out of my head.  She is also the person that told me about the “Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe”, which can be found here, but enough about that, this is about the brownies.  While I have not made these brownies YET, I plan to very soon.

I have seen an overload of over the top baking recipes on Pinterest, but this one really stuck out because of my love for Oreos. There is something about buying a package of cookies at the grocery store and turning them into something gourmet. I also love the part at the end of the recipe that states you should serve it with ice cream. As if a combination of brownie, chocolate chip cookie and Oreos really needs to be served with ice cream?! Well, I am not opposed.  So below is the recipe from “What’s Gabby Cooking”, let me know if you try it out for Easter or on a raining day!!

Ingredients

For the Brownie layer:
    • 10 tbsp unsalted butter
    • 1 1/4 cups white sugar
    • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup AP flour
For the Oreo layer:
    • 1 package of Oreo (regular stuffed or double stuffed)
For the Cookie Dough layer:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (at room temp)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cup AP flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. For the Brownie layer:
  2. In a medium sauce pan, melt the butter over medium high heat. Add the sugar and cocoa powder once the butter is melted. Whisk to combine and remove from heat. Add the salt, vanilla and eggs and continuously whisk until the eggs are combined. Add the flour and continue to mix. Set batter aside.
  3. For the Cookie Dough layer:
  4. Cream together the butter and sugars in a mixer. Add the eggs and vanilla, making sure to scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl. Add the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and mix on low until everything is incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips. Set dough aside.
  5. Assembly:
  6. Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  7. Line the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan with tin foil and then spray the tin foil with a layer of baking spray.
  8. Layer 1/2 of the cookie dough on the bottom of a 9x9 baking pan, pressing down to form the bottom of the slutty brownies. Reserve the remaining cookie dough to be used to make cookies later in the day.
  9. Layer as many oreos that will fit on top of the cookie dough. No need to overlap. One single layer will do.
  10. Pour the brownie batter on top of the oreo layer and make sure it’s evenly layers on top.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Test with a knife to see if the center is done. If the knife comes out clean, let the brownies rest before serving. If the knife comes out with batter still on it, allow the brownies to bake about 5 minutes more.
  12. Serve with ice cream.

Washi Love!

As my love for Washi tape continues, so does my ever lasting obsession with bright colors. This is a simple and somewhat thrifty way to jazz up any card stock and envelopes you have laying around the house.  Washi tape can be purchased on sites such as Etsy.com and also in higher end craft and paper stores. The tape is a delicate (and typically matte) Japanese tissue tape made of rice paper. It is fun to play around with because there are so many possibilities and it adheres to most surfaces. Do you have any creative ideas of what Washi tape can be used for?
